SOCIAL/GENDER ROLES:
MEN: |
WOMEN: |
Synthesis: In many other societies did they have patriarchal societies, where men received more respect than women. In the Industrial Revolution, men received lots of respect from the other members of the family because they earned most of the income for the household. This is similar to the Han Dynasty in the postclassical era because they also had a patriarchal society where men ruled in the house, and the women stayed at home mostly so the men were bringing the money home. This thought of respecting al elder (the dad in this case) is called filial piety.

Industrial Families

- moved economic production outside of the home, and industrialization put a distinction between work and family life
- it became less common for family members to work in groups
- workers left their homes each day to the mines etc. to work, and each member of the family had very separate lives
